HR Influencer 101

Back in 2012, the HR Industry in India witnessed a benchmark moment. The SHRM Top 20 Indian HR Influencers on Social Media list was curated, and for the first time, HR leaders could be found and followed on social media with ease. Today, finding HR leaders on social media is a breeze, but back then, it was a game-changer.

I vividly remember going through the list and following the HR leaders. It was one of the trigger points for me to aspire to be on that very list one day. I guess you could call it affirmation, and it worked. SHRM has consistently created the list of Top HR Influencers in India.

Have been honored to be included in the SHRM Top HR Influencers on Social Media list since 2014-15. The most recent recognition came from the Economic Times HR World, where I was named one of the Top 20 Influencers of 2024. It is truly a privilege to have been featured for four consecutive years by ETHRWorld.

There is no secret about the key ingredients to be a HR Influencer. I believe your passion for your subject plays a significant role in moving towards the right direction. Allow me to share some insights on how one can manage to stay engaged and pertinent in the field.

  1. Subject Matter Expert: Discovering your unique area of expertise is crucial, as I did with Employer Branding. Each individual may have a different specialization, so it’s important to identify yours and fully immerse yourself in it.
  2. Events and HR Conferences: Numerous HR events take place annually, giving you the freedom to select the ones you wish to participate in. By investing in yourself and actively engaging in these conferences, you can stay updated on the latest HR trends, network with industry experts, and establish valuable connections. Remember, your network is a valuable asset.
  3. Social media platforms: Nowadays, there is an abundance of social media platforms available. The key is to choose one that effectively highlights your content and is also suitable for your target audience. In my case, I found WordPress to be the ideal platform for my dedicated blog, Rambling HR.
  4. Consistency: Consistency is key in maintaining your message and topics. Creating a content calendar can assist in scheduling posts across various platforms. Utilize tools like Hootsuite or Buffer to streamline this process effectively.
  5. Engage with your followers: The modern age of social media has changed the way we approach information. Passive readership is no longer enough. We must strive to engage and start a dialogue with our audience. Encourage interaction and feedback by inviting comments on your posts.

There is no magic formula for being HR Influencer. What works for one person may not work for another. Therefore, it is important to stay true to yourself, be genuine, and remain open to learning and evolving. I want to express my gratitude to all those who have supported me along this path, imparted knowledge, and shared their expertise. Without their guidance, I would not have reached this point. There is still much to learn and contribute to the community as I continue on this journey.
