What took you so loooong! #Hashtags

Yes, you read it right. This was Tweeted on 20th March, 2015.

But as they say, All’s Well That Ends Well.

500+ million users, 70% of Linkedin users are from Outside of Us. 40 million students and recent college graduates on LinkedIn. What’s in it for us! Well, LinkedIn has been kind enough to help us all leverage hashtags and find relevant topics easily. So now all you have to do is click on a hashtag that you see on LinkedIn or you can also search hashtags via the search box.

Here are a few examples of how you can find relevant topics via hashtags

a) This is a topic that I am keen to explore and learn. So all I have to do is enter this topic and filter it | People | Jobs | Companies | Groups | etc

b) There has been a lot of talk around #EmployeeExperience, so do leverage this and explore some amazing content using relevant hashtags

c) Great opportunity to find relevant topics that are of your interest such as DevOps, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning etc.

How can HR folks leverage GIF’s to communicate with candidates?

#DIDYOUKNOW : The Graphics Interchange Format, better known by its acronym GIF (/dʒɪf/ JIF or /ɡɪf/ GHIF), is a bitmap image format that was developed by a team at the bulletin board service (BBS) provider CompuServe led by American computer scientist Steve Wilhite on June 15, 1987. It has since come into widespread usage on the World Wide Web due to its wide support and portability.

No doubt they are popular, no doubt we use it regularly while communicating with our friends. Recently my friend Ashish Peshave tweeted that LinkedIn has added GIF in the message box. Hence thought of writing this blog post. Thanks Buddy for the news 🙂

So coming back to the question… can HR folks leverage GIF’s to communicate with candidates? You might think “Why on earth would a candidates like to see a GIF from HR?” Time to walk the talk. Out Hiring Champs at Tieto have created a series of GIF’s around various Domains that they are hiring for. Hence these creative GIF’s were shared with the prospective candidates and also on Corporate Social Media Channels. And guess what; also to the once which have been offered. Yes, you read it right. Offered Candidates.

The Impact: Most of them replied back thanking the recruiter for sharing information about the areas, domains, skills etc they will be working on. This helped them to also share it with their friends who were working on similar domain/ skills.

Advantage:

  • Short Duration has a positive impact – 20 – 30 seconds
  • Easy to share (Not a heavy file)
  • Can be shared via Whatsapp (Biggest advantage)

So, can HR folks leverage GIF’s? The straight answer is YES. This is just one of the example of how GIF’s can be leveraged by HR folks. Here are few more examples:

  • A GIF can be sent to Drop Out Candidates
  • Alumni (Ex- Employees)
  • Prospective Candidates
  • Thank you note to walk-in candidates
  • Key HR policies to be converted in GIF’s for employees / external candidates
  • And the list is endless…..

It all depends how who and what messaging you want to convey via GIF’s.

Green or Red!!!

All it takes is just Red or Green button to get insights around employee morale. One set of folks would be more keen to talk about Systems, AI, Machine Learning, High End Gadgets etc to track and measure employees morale. Whereas the other set of folks might want something which is easy, simple and effective.

Well, if you are looking for the 2nd option, this might be something that you would like to explore. During some research assignment around how to gauge employees morale, in simple words the mood of employees, I landed on this interesting site : Celpax .They have a simple yet strong mission, a mission to make it as easy as possible for all employees to participate in improving the workplace. This is where they caught my attention and I happened to order the device and get a feel of it. PS: The 1st device is FREE. You read it right, FREE.

So the device did travel across the world; it came all the way from Barcelona to Germany to Amsterdam to Mumbai and then finally Pune 🙂 And to make things interesting there was a personalized note too in the box (Contains Device, Collaterals, How to Install Note) PS: It did take around 3 mins to install the device.

Now that the system is on, it will be interesting to see what insights can be recorded. For folks who are totally into DATA, there is a dashboard that you get access to. This is the place where in you get Mood KPI information, weekly data, trends, days wise participation etc.

So, what are you waiting for, go ahead and explore this simple, easy and effective way to involve your employees and put a smile on their face (Hopefully a Green Button 🙂 )
