I am sure you might have heard this term “Walk the Talk”. It was actually time to do that 🙂 Was fortunate to attend a #globalmentoringwalk organized by BD Foundation & Vital Voices. The Global Mentoring Walk is a notable initiative taking place on the same day in several countries around the world in celebration of the International Women’s Day.
BD Foundation is the official flag bearer of The Global Mentoring Walk in India. In the past 5 years they have hosted various walks around the country mobilizing thousands of women and provided established women leaders a platform to activate the potential of a new generation of change-making, boundary-pushing women and girls, enabling them to create a better world for us all.
One such unique walk was organized at SKF, Chinchwad Campus. There were around 50+ passionate and inspiring leaders were present 8 am in the morning. Each one of them all set to “Walk the Talk”. Participants ie Mentors and Mentees came from various companies such as Tieto, Barclays, Eaton, Sandvik and SKF. Mentors and Mentees were paired up and the walk started. I guess informal talks do help each one of us to open up and learn from each-other. Such unique platform does help in creating the next set of leaders too.
Post the walk it was time for an engaging panel discussion that included passionate leaders such as Pranali Save, Syam Chintapenta and Shaffic Ahamed. They went on to share in their insights around mentoring, how to go about it, what to focus on and how to also create informal platforms around mentoring programs at corporate organisations.
Just like others I too was excited to then hear Sudha Menon, Author, columnist, speaker, writing coach, founder, Get Writing and Writing With Women. at Independent. She was candid and shared some amazing insights around how she started writing.
Would like to take this opportunity to thank Sarika Bhattacharyya, Rashmi for giving me this opportunity to cover this event and learn from these amazing mentors and mentees. Already looking forward to the next #globalmentoringwalk

There has been lot of talks around encouraging more and more #WomanAtWork, Gender Diversity and so on. There is still loads and loads of work that we and companies need to do to prove this statistics wrong. “The World Economic Forum in its Global Gender Gap Report 2015 estimates it will take until 117 years to achieve global gender parity in the workplace.”
So let’s take small yet concrete steps to nurture, encourage and inspire more #WomanAtWork.
Here is a small list of things that you, me and us can do right away:
No point giving Gyan!!!! Just pick up 100’s and thousands of inspiring stories from your women employees, celebrate their success stories within and outside your company.
Brand Ambassador and Mentors:
This is a great opportunity for us and companies to identify Brand Ambassadors and Mentors who can guide, nurture and inspire women at work.
At the end of the day, this is what matters. Rope in your leaders, showcase concrete data points and also involve them in such programs.
Attracting and Retaining Talent:
As a Sourcer and Recruiter at heart, I always believe that this is where all the magic begins. Empower your hiring teams to identify amazing talent out there. Create a list of amazing things that your company does to encourage more Women at Work. It could include policies, flexi timings, transport and so on.
