Google Allo : HR’s New Best Friend!!!

So, by now you would have realized that I am dictating this to someone and that someone has done the needful. Any guess who this someone might be? Well, it’s my new friend aka Google Allo. Life has become easy and I am able to focus on other productive work. All I have to do is type these instructions and Google Allo (Assistant) will do the rest. This is really an amazing way to delegate some transactional work and it surely saves lot of your time. You can ask for reports, schedule meeting, set reminders, ask Allo to also attach important files, links, Videos, Pictures and so on.

One of the major challenges that hiring professionals face during weekend drives is to follow up with candidates, remind them about their schedule, ask them to bring in the required documents and also follow up again on the day of the weekend drive. Allo can help you do it all. All you have to type in the required instructions and that’s it 🙂 Simple right.

And guess what, post the event Allo can send in thank you note to all those who have attended the recruitment drive. To make things more interesting, Allo can also send the list of Final Selects to the Delivery Manager. That’s amazing stuff. All this possible just by typing 😉

So how many of you actually tried it out!!! Did it work for you? Yes, No!!!  Before you remove me from your friends list, let me confess; this does not work as of now. But this will soon be a reality and HR will benefit a lot from this. Getting Data will not be boring anymore. It will be just a chat away. (Was tempted to use this line “Data is the new OIL”)

#TASCON16 in 140 characters!!!!

It’s tough to express all about #TASCON16 in words. You got to attend it for sure 🙂

 Sourcing Adda and team have yet again proved that they are India’s Premier Conference that is dedicated for TA and Sourcing folks. It’s an amazing community of like minded and passionate Hiring folks that are making a difference and creating the next set of TA and Sourcing Champions.

Twitter List of 101 Inspiring Gentlemen

Sourcing + Passion = SourceCon!!!!

It was time for yet another action packed SourceCon event. For those who might be new to this event, let me make it easy for you 🙂 SourceCon is the SourcingAdda of US. I still remember my first post for SourceCon way back in 2011 “Sourcer OR Recruiter: A Classic Title Dilemma In India” For those who started Sourcing way back, might relate to the post. But Sourcing as function has got lot of respect in the recent years in India. Companies are finally realizing the power of setting up Sourcing Teams. They are zapped by the cost that can be saved by investing in a Sourcing Function.

Recently there was an All India Sourcing Contest organised by SourcingAdda know as “SPL“. There were over 160 + Passionate Sourcing Champs participating in a month long contest. Here is the final outcome of the event : “Final Leader Board“. Its an amazing feeling to see Sourcers getting their right place in the hiring industry. It did come a bit late, but was worth the wait 🙂

So let’s come back to SourceCon. They had their premier event in Dallas, TX from Sep 17-18, 2015. No doubt it had Who’s Who from the World of “Sourcing”. You won’t believe, but folks in India do stay awake till the wee hours, just to follow SourceCon and the amazing insights that come out of the event. This year too was special. 5 years of Blogging – Rambling Reflections :)

23rd Dec 2009, was all set to have my own blog. Had been reading loads of blogs, commented and shared my views on them. But wanted to setup my own blog where I could share my thoughts, experience and what I learnt . Wanted to write as a layman for the audience; with no place for HR Jargon 🙂  Did struggle on what should be the name of the blog, so did some research. But after a point of time thought that the idea of starting a blog was a random thought, as I was just wandering; so came up with the name ” Rambling Recruiter “.  aka wandering recruiter 🙂 This is how the amazing learning journey began.

BloggingOne thing that I have learnt from Blogging is that “The more I share, the more I end up learning”. Blogging is all about sharing your passion with the audience. You don’t have to be a writer to start blogging. Just go ahead and pen down your thoughts about the subject you like.

I started my journey as a Sourcer and did enjoy every bit of it for 5 year. So my blogs did range from “Yes I’m Proud to be a “Sourcer” | Are you!!!! to Are you up for a Weekend Drive!! Then moved on to so called End to End Recruitment 😉 So the focus of my blogs got shifted towards Recruitment. Those Include – Sorry, It’s a BAD HIRE!!” to “Ways to bring down cost per hire!!!” During these 8 yrs in my career was always keen to learn new methods and techniques to search talent. There were some blogs which were tough to write and more importantly tough to post too. The following blog did give me some sleepless nights. Was not sure if it can be posted and shared online. Yes I’m Proud to be a “Sourcer” | Are you!!!!

This journey began way back in 2005, when I entered in the Corporate World. Day 1 and I was calling candidates and inviting them to come for Interviews. Then Started with Sourcing resumes via Naukri and Monster.com (India’s premier Job Portals) then entered the world of passive hiring and now Social Recruiting. Since that day I have been fascinated by the way things have changed in Sourcing.  Way back in 2011 I have written a Blog for SourceCon titled Sourcer OR Recruiter: A Classic Title Dilemma in India

Sourcing is a Specialized Job and it needs real passion to work as a sourcer. Typically most of the sourcing experts end up working on bulk requirements; it is also known as mass hiring. When it comes to this kind of hiring, there is a lot of dependency on Job Portals. And the sourcer is just restricted towards Job Portals.

Years have passed by, but has the mindset changed towards Sourcing in India!! Are sourcers still hiding behind the shadow of Recruiters!! Are they using their Sourcer Title in their LinkedIn resume!!! Does their Twitter Bio say “Sourcer”!!! The answer is a BIG YES.

Sourcing is at the center stage of hiring process in India. It is considered as a cost saving team that is expert at finding talent from best possible and cost effective channels. With the emergence of Social Media, Sourcing has moved to a new level. Sourcing which was just restricted to Job Portals has now evolved. Now Sourcers have adopted this new medium and are active on relevant channels to source talent. There are special Sourcing Teams which work on niche requirements, a team that works on Leadership Sourcing and a team that even does Market Mapping.

Sourcers are now active on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook in search of candidates. But a word of caution:  You cannot tell a sourcer to use LinkedIn for Generic Requirements. Also you can’t expect the sourcer to line up 100′s of candidates using the passive sourcing channels. Hence one needs to ensure that the right sourcing channels are being used.

Let me repeat myself; Sourcing is all about Passion, it’s all about challenging you to search, learn and explore new ways to source. As a sourcer one must be ready to adopt new channels, try them and test them. Don’t be afraid of failure, just go ahead and explore the online world.

India’s largest database of employees!​!! Free!! Possible!!

“Employee Database” – we feel Corporate HR alone has access to these names. Ever wondered or dreamt of getting access to real time employee data of all companies without being had to run behind insurance companies or by illegally buying the databank. YES there is a way to get access to this without shelling out a single penny.

You must be kidding. How can you get India’s largest database of Employees!! And to make things more interesting, for FREE!! How on earth is this possible!! Well, I am not a hacker, so this option is ruled out. During writing this post, I often did ask myself this question “After this post, some authorities and companies might want to block this database access!! 

So have I scared you enough!! So if this data involves all the companies that are operating in India, how can it be free to access? Well, I am still looking for those answers. But imagine the power of this database. People can use it and also misuse it. Again it depends on how and what you want to do with this data. Normally people use the term Gold Mine, but I would like to call this as Diamond Mine. Such is the power of this data. Enough of selling.

 Some questions before we get into the database: 

Can you get the entire list of employees working in any company in India!!! 

Can you find the exact number and full names of employees working in any organization in India!! 

Can you get the latest report of employee’s headcount (Updated every month) 

Want to know how many employees your competitors hired last month, last year!! 

Is all this possible!!! If yes, can you access it for FREE!!!

Well, as they say what’s knowledge without sharing it? And the more you share, the more you end up learning.

Enough of suspense. Following is the magic link that will answer all the questions that were highlighted earlier and much more. http://www.epfindia.gov.in/

Well, you might say that this is just an Employee’s Provident Fund Account. How will they provide access to the entire database? Well, in employer’s column, there is a section called “Establishment search (Also view Remittances & Member Name)” Just click on this.

Once you reach the page, just go and click on the last checkbox, ie – “Also search on Estt. Name (enter a few characters of estt. name or in full)”. And now all you need to do is enter any Company Name that operates from India. Simple!! Once you enter that company name, click on Payment Part. And then what you get in nothing short of a Eureka moment, which includes:

Sl. No. –  TRRN – Date of Credit – Amount Wages Month – No. of Employee – ECR and Member Passbook details. To get the name of all the employees working in that organization, all you need to do is click on the hyperlink (No of employees) section. Also to add, this data gets updated every month. Well, EPF org has to do it, as companies pay their own contribution every month. So no chance of this data being stale or old. How cool is this!!!

So can this be India’s largest database of employees!!!

Some of you might question the ethics part while sharing such data. Well, this data is free to access (As we speak). Not sure if  companies plan to block it in future. Top 2 Reasons for Recruiters / HR’s to be on Twitter!!

Resumes, Dropouts, Offers, Targets, Excel Sheets, Reports, ATS, Performance Management, Appraisals !!! These are some of the keywords that are a major part of any Recruiter and HR’s life. Well, there is no doubt that this is their bread butter and life line of any professional working in the HR Industry, but as they say, there is more to it. Well, this is a small attempt from my end to highlight the importance of Twitter in the life of Recruiters and HR professionals. In my previous post I had talked about Reasons Recruiters run away from using Social Media !!

PS: We Recruiters / Hiring Managers have a general mindset that it’s only about getting resumes from Social Media Channels, Job Posting, and Sourcing etc. Well, it’s also about creating your network, engaging with the audience, joining meaningful conversations and so on. So let’s take a look at the Top 2 reasons for Recruiters and HR professionals to be on Twitter.

Twitter-talking

Twitter is a great platform for Recruiters to have meaningful conversations –

Twitter can be used as platform by recruiters to engage with the audience. Recruiters can follow various Industry experts, HR Professionals, Technology Experts and talk, share, ask questions and join conversations. Imagine you being able to follow VP HR, CEO’s, HR Managers, Recruiters, L&D Managers!! Is this possible!! Well, Twitter makes it possible. So think of the kind of knowledge all of these experts have and best part is that they are already sharing it on Twitter. Needless to say that all you have to do is follow them. Again it’s not only about hiring, hiring and hiring.

Chat Sessions –

There are various chat sessions that are conducted to encourage HR and Recruiters talk about their experiences. These Communities talk about topics related to HR / Recruitment industry and the experts on those topics share their views. And all this in just 140 characters. Well, again you don’t have to be an expert to follow the tweets, you can also be a silent spectator and gain knowledge. Following are my personal favorites chat sessions that I regularly follow:
