Power of Twitter!!!!

Many of you must be already aware of it, and many of you must be also using it. Well, the reason for writing this post is to give a background about twitter (some tips), and also to share some tips to use it (Will it help us? What’s in it for me? How will it help me? Etc)

Also through this post wanted to know your views about Twitter, you might also have some things to share, your experiences (good or not so good) about Twitting. This is mainly for sharing the know how of twitter.

What is Twitter?

-Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service

-Twitter enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets

Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author’s profile page and delivered to the author’s subscribers who are known as followers

PS: Twitter is very popular amongst various Professionals, Companies and also amongst Celebrities. (This includes you :))

You must be wondering, what’s this entire buzz about twitter.

What’s in it for me?

Well, a simple answer to it is, consider this as a Mobile phone, you have limited characters (140), you can write your messages, publish it to your friends (followers), it has a huge visibility factor, its free (just need an internet connection / or mobile)

It’s a channel through you can share your opinions, feedback, views, ideas etc. You can follow thousands of users and get into discussions. It’s also a tool to promote your self, your company, your skills etc.

Some tips regarding usage of Twitter:

–          Use the search option on twitter as much as possible

–          This helps you to decide who / what to follow

–          It is not necessary for you to read every tweet 😉

–          Use your space to highlight your blogs, ideas, views on topics of your interest

–          Also at times try to know what people like or have interest in ( This brings a human effect )

–          Use or to shorten URL’S ( Saves  space )

–          Follow industry leaders in your domain (I am sure that they must also have a twitter account ;))

–          Promote Your Work/Company. You can have separate accounts, personal and professional, if privacy is an issue.

–          If you like some tweets, just put “RT @name” in front of their tweet and post it yourself ( Retweet)

–          You can integrate your LinkedIn account with Twitter. Also can use the application on Facebook.

Microblogging… What’s that?

Well, you might be familiar with Blogs, and, well you might have also made one yourself. Just to add to your vast pool of jargons, we have…..Microblogging

Well, its not that new, just 2 yrs ago this Micro (Blog) has arrived.

Microblogging is a form of multimedia blogging that allows users to send brief text updates or micromedia such as photos or audio clips and publish them, either to be viewed by anyone or by a restricted group which can be chosen by the user.

Its the shorter version of Blogs. I guess it’s for those who have limited time, or might not prefer to write pages n pages. They prefer it short n sweet. ( Not always sweet )

Just to give you some examples of Microblogging sites, we have Twitter, Tumblr, Plurk,, Squeelr, Beeing, Jaiku and Well to be honest,i  just managed to use two of these sites ( Twitter and Tumblr )

My efforts are on to explore the rest of these sites :). The purpose of Microblogging is to say (Write) as must as possible in a crunched space.

The easier way to do it is add a link. Generally people use or to shorten the links, this saves the characters and the message is conveyed easily. For example, this link – will look like this or like this

Does that mean that LinkedIn and Facebook also are in this Business?

The answer is yes, they are part of this. You might have noticed that these sties have this space (Status Updates) this is also a kind of microblogging, to enter your status in a limited space. Interesting… Isn’t it…..

I forgot to mention once more site – Yammer. This is also a Microblogging site. But the only difference is that its not that open (as in, you need to log in with your official id) Only employees of a particular organization can view its activities. It’s also used as a communication tool in some organizations.

Am I missing out on something…. well… The main issues with micro blogging are privacy, security, and integration. But as always, Professionals are working hard to find a way out of it.

As of now, I am waiting to get my hands on the rest of the sites ( Microblogging ) and will surely add on to this piece of information. I will be more than willing to share and learn from you out there during this journey.

I am Lucky to have found this ample space to write this piece of information, or else in the true sprite of Microblogging i would have to present it in this manner – ( Microblogging.. What’s that?  More info at )

Sometime back i came across a new site (Blog )

Sometime back i came across a new site (Blog ) called – Tumblr

Nice name right….

Well its kind of different when i started using the same. Although its been just couple of days since i have got my hands on it. Just to give you a background about this site – Tumblr is a blogging platform that allows users to post text, images, video, links, quotes, and audio to their tumblelog, a short-form blog. Users are able to “follow” other users and see their posts together on their dashboard. Users can like or reblog other blogs on the site. The service emphasizes customizability and ease of use.

Well its features might be common to most of the advanced users, but for a common man / Woman ( with uncommon needs) he / she  can post simultaneously on Twitter and Facebook, can also upload pictures. Tumblr makes it effortless to share anything you find or create. Post text, photos, quotes, links, dialogues, audio, video, slideshows, and more.

One can also get rich RSS subscriber analytics with integrated FeedBurner support and ( this is a good one ) Tumblr doesn’t force any ads, banners, or logos into your theme.

Well you got the point right, 🙂 so go on explore it, find out more about it.

Go on… share it with friends / professionals. Don’t forget to share if you come across some intresting facts about you, and also about your experiences while using this 🙂
